Lake Monroe: History

Lake Monroe is a man-made body of water that was constructed between 1960 and 1965. The main reason for creating the lake was to provide a water source for Bloomington homes. However, it was also created to prevent flood damage to towns downstream. The United States Army Corps of Engineers in the Louisville district constructed the lake and still manage it today.
